Muhammad and Aisha

Let's debate this one. Please feel free to add your comments here regarding this topic.

Here's my take on this issue. Many documented evidence have shown us that Aisha indeed was a child and was immature and most importantly didn't understand the concept of marriages and sex. Yet, the prophet of God deemed necessary to continue this old Arab tradition instead of abolishing it.

By doing so he created a precedent for all Muslims, for all time. Which is preciously why we see so many underage marriages even today in most of the Islamic world. And why not, their prophet and the founder of their religion did it so it is their duty to emulate him.

The problem does not lie in Muhammad’s sexuality and what forms it took, although a moral case can certainly be made on that basis alone.

The moral crime really lies in Muhammad’s role as a setter of precedent. With Aisha’s early initiation into sex and marriage, he set the precedent for all future followers in all ages that the onset of menstruation marks sexual readiness in girls: this is a medically, socially and psychologically harmful position to hold. That’s Muhammad’s moral crime, of which he was of course completely unaware, not being the prophet of God. And that’s what Muslims have to face and refute: a prophet of god setting a harmful precedent.

For now, just a small question for you...
I will come back to reply, when you have posted your reply...

Just tell me which of these are correct in deciding the gae of marriage.

In United States, though generally children 16 and over may marry with parental consent. Under 16 generally require a court order in addition to the parental consent

New Hampshire (which is a state of USA): A female between the age of 13 and 17 years and a male between the age of 14 and 17 years can be married only with the permission of their parent (guardian) and a waiver. A female below the age of 13 and a male below the age of 14 are not allowed to marry under any conditions.

Until 2008, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints practiced child marriage through the concept 'spiritual (religious only) marriages,' as soon as girls are ready to bear children, as part of its polygamy practice and laws have raised the age of legal marriage in response to criticism of the practice...

Was Church right or wrong in doing this???

In Canada, individuals must be 18 or older (19 in British Columbia) to be married, unless they have parental permission.

In Pakistan The minimum legal age for marriage is 18 for men and 16 for girls..

In India 18 for female and 21 for girls.

# Tunisia: 20 for males and 17 for females, lower with judicial special permission for pressing reasons and on the basis of a clear interest for both spouses.[10]
# Zimbabwe:The Marriages Act [Chapter 5:11]Under this legislation, a man may marry at the minimum age of 18 while a woman may marry at the minimum age of 16.[11]

Colombia: 18, 14 with parental consent.

I can mention more.

But for now, please reply which country is right... And why???Especially reply why Church of Us allowed child marriage until 2008???
